Happy Campers!
Well, we've finally done it! We took the leap, we threw caution into the wind, we've trod where others have feared to trod (or would that be "tread"?). Yes, we are now the proud owners of a brand new, 1997, slightly beat up - yet still very functional - pop-up camper!
I can only imagine how excited all of you are to read about this development...
Actually, we are pretty excited about this camper. It was inexpensive (thank you e-bay) and sleeps all 5 of us with room to spare. After some clean-up and fix-up we have gotten her in pretty good shape, and we really enjoyed it during a recent camping trip to Petoskey State Park.
We have a few more trips planned for this summer - our next one being to Brown City Camp next Friday.

Have fun at Brown City Camp this week. I know what a fun and exciting locale you are vacationing in -- Brown City is my home town. :P

Mike, the truck was my Dad's, we just borrowed it for the trip.
Brown City is quite a place... That is where you grew up? Are you familiar with the Missionary Church Campground?

"A quite place" - very diplomatic! It is a rural town that has seen more excitement in the past, but not a great deal lately :P At one time it was known for its motor home factories, whose customers (I'm told) included Lucille Ball, Johnny Carson, and several other well known names.
Yes, I grew up and graduated from Brown City Community Schools. My folks still live in town, and Dawn and I own property a mile East and a mile North of town. ( If you were to take M-90 East out of town. Its on the corner of Brooks and Baily).
The house I grew up in is across from the original Missionary Church in town. My bedroom window looked out upon it. And my Uncle Dale and Linda's home was right behind it. Several relatives attended there.
My mom's folks lived about 3 1/2 miles due West of the campground on Wilcox. Our youth group held our fall kick-off retreats at the the camp ground, so I'm a bit familiar with it.
Like most things, it has changed some. In the 18 years since I left for Spring Arbor they have purchased land and added the trailer park portion on the South side, and added several new buildings (Dining Hall for example).
The summer camp I attended was Bayshore Camp in Sebewing, MI. At the time Kent Fishel was dean for both the Sr. Hi camp at Bayshore, and youth camp at the Missionary Campground. I remember how hot the summers would be, and how he and some of the counselors who worked both camps appreciated that Bayshore allowed us to wear shorts. It was still a few more years before I heard that the Missionary Camp allowed it. Which is change I imagine you can appreciate!
The pastor of my home church while growing later switch to the Missionary Church and now pastors Open Door Missionary Church in Sandusky (about 25 miles away). My folks attend there now (my home church eventually merged with a sister church located a few blocks away - An EUB/Methodist thing). So you may run into him - Larry Van Slambrook. Also, the Jr. Hi youth speaker, Karl Black, graduated with me. Matter of fact, you really are hanging out with several of my childhood crowd - Reggie Courliss, now pastor of at Elkton MC (maybe?) was my Campus Life Leader. Ken Smeader (now pastor of Battle Creek or K-zoo MC) was my counselor for a couple of years at Bayshore.
Okay - enough name dropping. Other than Larry, and probably Karl, I don't know how many would even remember me :P. Plus, I imagine that is more than you ever wanted to know about Brown City, my childhood, etc. LOL.
