Father's Day

We had a great Father's Day yesterday. Mom and Dad drove out for the day and helped out with a lot of stuff and shared a great meal with us. The kids all made me some nice home-made Father's Day cards, and Sandi worked diligently behind-the-scenes to make it all happen.

I wrote a Father's Day card to my Dad and sent it off to him this morning. Wanted to share this with everyone who reads this blog (just want to brag on him a little bit).

Dad,

Just wanted to say “thank you” for coming out today to celebrate Father’s Day with us. Thank you for helping out with the lawn mower and the retaining wall (not to mention the vegetable garden). By the way, I cut the grass after you left and it looks great!

Today makes three times you have driven out to our house over the past month. Each time you came out you also helped me with some project or another. I just want you to know how much I appreciate the fact that you care enough to make such an effort. The memories that we have made building the fort together or planting a garden will be something I will always treasure.

I didn’t want to buy you some card from a store for Father’s Day this year – I wanted to make my own. Although it’s not quite as cute as the ones the kids made for me – it is written with all the same love.

You are a good father – and a good grandfather. And in recent years I can honestly say that you have become a great friend – one of my very best.

Here’s to many more Father’s Days together – and many more projects.

I love you, Tom

The big 4 - 0

Well, it has finally happened. On Monday, May 21st, 2007 I turned 40 years old. Wow! Here's how my day unfolded.

I hunted in the morning for turkeys (only made contact with mosquitoes), then I had lunch with Sandi, looked at some new exercise equipment that we are buying, and then played golf in my Monday night league. After golf I came home to a very nice steak dinner that my wife prepared. We ate on our deck and it was a beautiful night. The kids all made birthday cards for me - they really enjoyed calling me an old "geezard" (a cross between an "old geezer" and an "old gizzard" I guess"). Sandi also made my favorite dessert - chocolate pudding pie.

We are throwing a big birthday party to mark this momentous occasion on June 9th at our place. We have invited a lot of family and friends and I am looking forward to it.

So far turning 40 has not been nearly as traumatic as turning 30. I think I just might survive this...
